I hate scarry things but I live with a ghost and she enjoys making me scream.

I am one of the biggest babies when it comes to horror movies, ghosts and anything that goes bump in the night. When my children were younger I would take them to the scarey movies and I would be the one hiding her face and screaming out loud. So when my daughter said she saw a ghost in her room my first thought was that she was just pulling my chain. Well she wasn't. I live in a haunted house.

We bought an old farm house. It was too small for my large family so we added two more bedrooms. Halfway through the build my husband and son would say they heard voices. They could not make out the words, just mumbling but there was no one else in the house. It became a daily thing as the building moved along. I woke up at 2:16 am to my daughter yelling for me a few days after she moved into her room. I ran in to see her pointing to her desk, I saw no one but she said there was a woman staring at her. Like the good mother that I am I ran out of the room. I made it to the kitchen and remembered my daughter so once again like the good mother I am, I yelled down the hall and told her to come to the kitchen. I know Mothering skills at their best. Well over the next six months our female ghost made her presence quite a few times, but never to me. So I was fine by it. No visual so I could be ignorant to what was going on. Well that didn't last very long.
Our ghost decided to show herself to me. I was outside in the garden and heard someone yell Mom, clear as day, so I looked around and yelled what. No one answered. I went back to work on the plants when I heard it again. I decided I was going to find which adult child of mine was too lazy to come out and find me. I went inside to see my daughter wrapped up in her blanket, walking out of the bathroom, going towards her bedroom door. I called her name, but she didn't answer. I was getting agitated now so I yelled at her as I walked down the hall. She never turned around and she walked into her bedroom, then she disappeared.  I froze. I couldn't breath, couldn't move. My heart was pounding in my ears and a cold hand brushed against my shoulder. I screamed, tripping over my real daughter as I ran down the hall, out the front door. I know, you are now laughing, rolling on the floor at the site of a grown woman pushing her daughter out of the way to run outside. Yes, another great mothering moment. Leave the child in the house with evil spirits.

Well my daughter lived through the ordeal and I went out and bought hair dye to cover all the gray hair this event caused. We have seen this spirit quite often since then and we have come to a silent agreement that she can stay as long as she stays out of my room, away from me, out of my site, see the pattern? Ignorance is bliss. We have tried to track the history of this house but have had no luck. My children have since grown and moved out, and my spirit child only gets active when they come home.
I want to wish everyone a very Happy Halloween. Be safe, and be aware that you might not be walking those dark streets alone. Spirits are among us.

Running so fast to just fall behind.

Have you ever felt like you were spinning your wheels? Running in place and getting no where. Well I am, and it’s my own fault. I finished my first book, Rescued from the Dark, and started my second, Last Chance to Run. Things were going along so smooth until someone asked me what I was doing to promote myself. Initial panic set in and confusion took over. How do you market yourself? I had so many questions, but no answers.

I asked other authors and picked the brains of my critique partners. They suggested that I join author groups, writers groups and sites that would promote me and my work. It all sounded so easy, so I joined each group I found that looked interesting. Now I’m critiquing, reviewing, blogging and tweeting. I’m doing everything except writing. How did this happen?

With NaNo coming up I decided to Un-do the mess I got myself into. I am going to slow down on all the sites I visit and concentrate more on my writing. I found myself coming home each night and working through e-mails, facebook, triberr and all the other social sites I found steeling my writing time. Now I will reward myself with some social network time after a get my word count done for the day. If only my characters would cooperate and stop ignoring me. They use to fight to be the first one on the page, but since I’ve been distracted they’ve decided to ignore me. What is a writer to do?

So my advice to all new writers, and some old is to write and when you think your done write some more. Blogging, tweeting, facebooking, ect, ect and on so on is what we need for a platform, but what would we need a platform for if we don't have any books.

Do you judge a book by its cover?

Before I started writing, I formed a readers group. We all work together so it was easy to discuss the books. The time came for our next book and I volunteered to pick one since I was always at the book store. We all like Suspense so the genre was not hard, but a book was. We are ten women that have different likes in our stories. Some like a lot of action in the field while others want all the action in the bedroom, but they all want suspense. So finding a good mix is sometimes a challenge. During one of our sessions I brought up one I heard of and it was voted down. I asked why and the consensus was the cover did not catch their attention.
I do spend a lot of time in book stores and realized I would pass up a book because the cover did not catch my eye, shame on me.
I really liked the blurb on this book so I decided to try something.  I went to the author site and copied the excerpt she had online and passed it to the group. After reading it they realized it was a book they were interested in. Since we buy our own books they wanted to know the title. They were surprised to see it was the one they voted down.
With my first book coming out soon picking a cover makes me nervous. My contract states I have a decision in the choices, just not sure how much of one. I’ve heard from many authors that they were not given a say in what their publisher picked and some did not like what they were given.
My small group is no longer a cover snob. We have learned our lesson. It’s not what’s on the front that counts; it is what you find inside. That’s where you find an authors voice, and an amazing story.
So tell me, are you a cover snob?
Have you ever had a cover you did not like?
Do you think it affected your sales?
I’m not a cover snob anymore but some nice man candy will pull me towards a book any day.  :}

Meet Mercedes Kingsley. An FBI intern with a secret to hide.

With Rescued from the Dark, coming out soon I thought I'd post an interview with the FBI intern Mercedes Kingsley. She is waiting on a response from her application to the FBI Academy. She struggles with her need to be an agent while hiding a secret that will destroy everything she has worked so hard to build.

Lynda:
“Welcome Ms. Kingsley. I have asked you here to go over a few items in your application for the Academy.  I’ve reviewed your paperwork and would like you to tell me about the incidents that lead to your father’s retirement 10 years ago.”

Mercy;   Mercy swallowed hard, folding her hands in her lap to stop the shaking.
"It was a botched kidnapping which caused a devastating ending to my father’s career. “  They just don’t need to know what else it caused that night.

Lynda;
"Could I have details please, I need it for the application. You failed to give information that we will need for the review board.”

Mercy:
“My parents own a software firm. There were threats made to the company and I was kidnapped because of them. My Father and his partner, Ron Daily, found out where I was. My Dad did not follow protocol and  came in without back-up. His career died that night and so did my dream to be an agent. I could not apply for the Academy as long as my dad struggled to get his life back.  But, as you have read it’s been 10 years and I realized that being an agent was the only thing I wanted to do. So I pursued the internship and applied to the Academy.”  Mercy’s heart raced, pounding in her ears, stay in control, this will be over soon.

Lynda:
“Are your parents fine with the decision? You know your father will be interviewed.  His opinion will be taken into account.”

Mercy:
“I know how this will affect my parents but they will back my decision.  I don't want to tell them until I had my acceptance letter.”  I really don’t want to tell them until I’m in the Academy. Ron said they weren’t going to talk to my dad. What changed?

Lynda:
"I see that you had counseling after the kidnapping, and treatment for an anxiety disorder.  Is this still an issue?  It will affect your ability to be an agent.”

Mercy:
How did they find out? Ron said no one would know, I would have some time. What else can go wrong?
“My counseling was complete, and I was released. I attached my past medical records to my application. My issues are in the past. That should also be stated in my medical papers.”

Lynda:
“It is. I just wanted to hear you say it, and make me believe it.  During the Academy you will be working closely with Ron Daily and his team. Will that be a problem for you? I see you have a close relationship with them, and a personal one with Jason Michaels. Have you read the rules Mercy? We have guidelines and if this is an issue I want to know now.”

Mercy;
Mercy rung her hands together underneath the table. Her heart raced as the sweat trickled down her back. Her head started to spin and she swallowed hard, pushing back her fears. Not now, this can't happen now. It will kill her application quicker than that kiss. The memory of it still warmed her lips but she knew the rules, and the pain she saw in his eyes as she walked away will always haunt her.
“It will not be an issue. Agent Daily and his team have helped me during my internship, and that’s all. We have a close business relationship only. Mr. Michaels and I do not have any kind of relationship, nor do we plan on having one. We both are aware of the rules and what is in stake if any are broken.”

Lynda:
“Ok as long as you are aware that they will also be interviewed.”

Mercy:
Mercy took in a deep breath to calm her nerves as the phone rang.

Lynda:
“I need to take this. I believe I have everything I need. I will contact you when the board reviews your application. Make sure you discuss this with your family. We will be contacting them soon”

Mercy quickly left the room as her heart pounded in her ears. She needed to find her parents, but she had to see Jason first, if he’ll see her.  Mercy swallowed past the fear in her throat. She has told so many lies to hide the truth, and a few secrets she’s not ready for anyone to know and it’s all closing in on her, fast.

She has no memory of their love...

Kidnapped by terrorists and sent into a drug-induced coma, FBI intern Mercedes Kingsley awakes with no memory of her ordeal—or the intimate interlude that left her pregnant. Convinced her child was fathered by her ex-fiancé, she walks away from the only man she has ever loved, determined to make things work with her ex, a man the FBI suspects is implicated in her abduction.

He knows the truth, but no one will listen...

FBI undercover agent Jason Michaels remembers what Mercy can’t and those memories are breaking his heart. Forced to keep his distance from his lover and their unborn child, Jason risks his life to protect Mercy from a cell of international terrorists who have vowed to get the secrets locked in her memory, no matter the cost. Can Jason convince Mercy to trust him until she remembers their past, or will he lose her to a man who will trap her in a nightmare world of darkness from which there is no escape?

He had to get her out of there, but with all the drugs in her system, would she even remember who he was?

Mercy was lying on the bed. Even in the dim light, he could tell she was pale. Her clothes were wrinkled and her shirt caked with what they forced her to eat. From the looks of the room she fought hard. Damn, he needed to get her out before the drugs took her from him.
“Mercy, wake up. Come on, open your eyes.” Nothing. She didn’t move. Okay, she’s not going to like this. “You need to wake up and take a shower, so let’s get both done at the same time.”
He took the chair into the shower and turned it on then went back to the bed. He picked up Mercy, and placed her under the fine mist of cold water. Just what she needed. He held her in the chair as the water flowed over her head, soaking her hair and drizzling down her shoulders. His back was pelted by the spray as he knelt in front of her, but he didn’t care. He shook her shoulders, and she stirred.
“Good, Mercy. Come on, open your eyes.” He struggled to hold her slippery, wet body in the chair. The T-shirt was soaked and her thin bra could not hide the effects of the cold water. He clenched his jaw tight at the thought of never being able to touch her, love her. She has to remember him, remember them. She struggled against his hold as she started to wake. “I’m not letting you up until you open your eyes. Come on, look at me.”
Her eyes flew open. They were filled will fear and confusion as she frantically searched the room. Then her head dropped and their eyes met and he knew.

Hope you enjoyed an insite to Mercy's world.
Until next time.

R-Rated Excerpt:
“Guess what:”
He laughed in that sexy baritone that never failed to make her breasts sit up and take notice.  “You’re naked and wet and planning on meeting me at the door.”
            “Which door?  Yours?  Mine?”
“Actually, swing by Cale’s tonight.  I’m heading up there after I get done at Kel and Spencer’s.”
“Up and Cale.  Now those are two words that rarely go together.”
“Funny girl.  If you show up naked, we know he’ll be up for plenty.”
She frowned.  There Tony went again with the jokes about Cale wanting her.  They seemed to pop up pretty often lately.  Sometimes she wondered if there was more truth behind his teasing than he was letting on.  As lifelong best friends, Cale and tony shared everything.  Did that extend to women too?
Thoughtfully she glanced at her notepad.  She’d already begun to formulate ideas about topics she would cover in her book.  So far the plan was to write an advice guide for women looking to reclaim their sexuality in whatever form they chose.  She’d explore all lifestyles and most of the major kinds in juicy depth.
Except there were gaps in her knowledge.  Back in college, she experimented with girls a couple of times, so that aspect was covered.  She’d oft enjoyed the benefits of having a lover younger than her by almost a decade.  But orgies?  Nope.  BDSM or fetishes?  Other than Tony spanking her now and then when he was feeling frisky, uh uh.  Voyeurism sex?  Another big fat no.  She’d never even been to Kink, and that place was also popular among the non-kinky set for its bar and dance club.  Her seemingly straitlaced brother Spence had hooked up with his girlfriend there, for God’s sake.
She didn’t intend to try everything herself.  There was no need, when she could do research on the net like the next Jane.  But some things were definitely doable.
Like a threesome.  She’d been curious about having a ménage even before she’d met Tony and Cale.  Unfortunately the opportunity had never presented itself

  Was it presenting itself now?
Now that she’d had this stroke of inspiration to write a book, she wanted her sex manual to be comprehensive.  Even if she didn’t make much money, she’d have done something useful with her life, something a little shocking.  She’d leave a mark that was all hers.  Her brainchild, her creation.
It wasn’t as if she be having a legacy of children so she wanted this book to be amazing.  To make sure it was, she’d have to do the ahem, legwork to explore some of the possibilities her readership might be curious about.  In a way, she’d be doing a public service she’d just happen to be paid for-please God-both monetarily and in orgasms.
Which brought her full circle to a ménage.  Cale was hot.  Undoubtedly.  His frequent bed partners proved he had more than good looks as well.  Despite his often irreverent sense of humor, Cale was as serious as Tony was carefree.  He also happened to be a bit fickle.  Though she couldn’t quibble about a man’s choices when she already had one guy and was angling how to get two.
            “Marsh?  You alive over there?”
Did she dare?  She didn’t want to drive her lover away, even in the name of research/
Forget research.  She was horny and Cale was delicious.  And charming.  And so very male that just one look in his ice-blue eyes was usually enough to wet her panties.
