You can be the light to so many in the dark.

If you gave Mental anguish a voice, what would it be? Would it be angry, controlling, or a cry for help? There is no wrong answer. It could be all the above, or just a darkness that swallows your soul. And it doesn't matter what label you give it, whether it be Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, BiPolar, Autism, and numerous more, the list is long. We are so good at putting a name to a disorder, but lack in seeing the seriousness of it all. We get lost in making sure the person behind the label is given every tool they need to get through the obstacles that they have to overcome. I have lived with, and dealt with, many family members fighting through the darkness of depression. I have held a loved one struggling the demons of a manic attack. I fought against voices I could not see to give a little hope to the lost soul wrestling to gain control of their mind. Whether their struggle started at birth, or was a result of an incident beyond their control, we need to not shun them. Mental ...

Help me Celebrate International Authors Day

Image
Hosted by Debdatta Dasgupta Sahay   http://www.b00kr3vi3ws.in/ We all start with a dream. A love of reading, and a passion for writing. I know my love for reading started young. It was my escape from life's demons. But my dream of becoming a writer came many years later and started with a dream. Literally, I woke up one morning after such a vivid dream and had to write it down. That was the beginning of my journey, how about you? when did you fall in love with reading, or realize you had a story inside you that needed to be told. Help me celebrate this amazing day with my two new releases. My first is a story near to me heart. It brings light to a dilemma that is more wide spread then any of us can see, child abuse. I share a little of my own personal journey through the eyes of my heroine.  If I Knew Then Young Adult She dreamed of a life of freedom—one filled with love that didn’t come with a price…  Angel O’Hare fought to keep he...

A Mother's love should never come with a price.

Child Abuse needs a voice, and should never be hushed. It's an epidemic, and happening all around us, but we don't see it. Abuse is not always physical. It can be emotional and verbal. They all leave the same scars, I know. I hide my own. In my Young Adult, If I Knew Then , Angel suffers in silence. She struggles to do the right thing, even if it means she will have to hide the evidence to save her family from the shame of her mothers secrets. Many children around us suffer in silence. We need to take off our blinders and give them a voice. A secure set of arms to run to for safety.  My book will be published this year and I am hoping to give at least one child the strength to speak up. Search for the love they will need to overcome.           All children want is to be loved. unconditionally Here's as excerpt from... If I Knew Then . Blurb Angel dreamed of a life of freed...

Abuse shouldn't be a part of someone's past. Be the voice that get's heard.

A Child should be seen, not heard. Who truly believes that? I don't. Children have a voice, we should encourage them to use it. Not hide behind their silence. Abuse comes in many forms . The most visible, physical . The next one we are familiar with is verbal but the one we cannot forget is emotional .  I am very familiar with the last two. I spent many years hiding behind a mask, never feeling like I was worthy, then being reminded of all my faults, and why I would never go anywhere in life by someone who wore a bigger mask then I did.  We look at our society and wonder what happened. Why is little Mary always crying and why is little Johnny so angry all the time.  If you fill a child's life with anger and disappointment then that's all they will know. You can't raise a child on nothing but negativity. I...

T,U,V,W,X,Y,Z The ABC's of a child's smile.

When I think of the ABC's, I think about children. The many hours spent playing games and singing songs so they could learn these amazing letters. It was so much fun, but for some it's  source of pain.                                           April is national Child Abuse Month. That is why I combined the remaining letters so my post can stay up for a week. Child Abuse comes in many forms. Physical, verbal, emotional, neglect of basic needs including love. Can you imagine living without the security of knowing someone is there to love and protect you?  Feeling that you need to try and be perfect? Afraid to make mistakes? Abuse does not always leave physical scars. I know, that's why I became a child advocate, and a foster parent. I wanted to make sure children knew that learning their ABC's can be fun, without the fear of making mistakes.  If you ...
