Help me Celebrate International Authors Day

Image
Hosted by Debdatta Dasgupta Sahay   http://www.b00kr3vi3ws.in/ We all start with a dream. A love of reading, and a passion for writing. I know my love for reading started young. It was my escape from life's demons. But my dream of becoming a writer came many years later and started with a dream. Literally, I woke up one morning after such a vivid dream and had to write it down. That was the beginning of my journey, how about you? when did you fall in love with reading, or realize you had a story inside you that needed to be told. Help me celebrate this amazing day with my two new releases. My first is a story near to me heart. It brings light to a dilemma that is more wide spread then any of us can see, child abuse. I share a little of my own personal journey through the eyes of my heroine.  If I Knew Then Young Adult She dreamed of a life of freedom—one filled with love that didn’t come with a price…  Angel O’Hare fought to keep he...

It's that time again...NaNowriMo

It's that time again and this year I'm going to be very busy. I plan on completing three projects: 1. Finishing my edits on the stories I pitched last month at  the conference so I can submit them.  Last Chance to Run: What if you found out the daughter you buried was alive and being held captive by a man you thought you killed? Ron Daily gave everything he had to the FBI. It was his life since his daughter’s death. Then his world crashed in around him when he’s told the terrorist he thought he destroyed staged her death. As obstacles mount against his daughter, he forms an alliance with another agent, a stubborn redhead with links to a secret from his past. Can he fight feelings for a woman that will never love him once she finds out the truth?  2. Complete the edits on my YA, If I Knew Then and send them back to my publisher Angel dreamed of a life of freedom. One filled with love that didn’t come with a price.  Sh e hid the pain until Jax ent...

Why I want to grow up and be Stephen King, even though I can't read his books.

Image
Let me start by saying I love Stephen King. He's a talented, gifted writer, and an amazing person. But I have yet to read one of his books to the end.                        They scare the daylights out of me. It's not that I haven't tried. I have. I even own eight of them. His writing is just so descriptive, and realistic, that I end up with nightmares. Who wants to have clowns invade your dreams, or have a car chase you into a nightmare from hell. As a writer I strive to be just like him. His readers are loyal and they count the days until his next one is released. I know, I live with one.  I want to have a shelf like this one filled with my books some day. Stephen King knows his craft. His books are well written and show the long hours he puts into them with the physical and emotional details in each one.         ...

Don't let Depression kill your creativity, and steal away your life.

Image
As I write this post, my heart is breaking. we lost an amazing Actor today.                                Some say he committed suicide, I say Depression killed him. Discussing Depression is like talking about Politics or Religion. Everyone has an opinion. Some see it as an excuse, others see it as a true medical condition. When I'm asked if I think depression is a real, I ask them if they think Chronic fatigue is, or even Postpartum illnesses.                                           You can't see them, but they can be felt. Whether it's physical, or mental, it's still pain. and it can destroy your will to go on. I know. I've had friends battle this, and family members that have fought, and won.     ...

Abuse shouldn't be a part of someone's past. Be the voice that get's heard.

Image
A Child should be seen, not heard. Who truly believes that? I don't. Children have a voice, we should encourage them to use it. Not hide behind their silence. Abuse comes in many forms . The most visible, physical . The next one we are familiar with is verbal but the one we cannot forget is emotional .  I am very familiar with the last two. I spent many years hiding behind a mask, never feeling like I was worthy, then being reminded of all my faults, and why I would never go anywhere in life by someone who wore a bigger mask then I did.  We look at our society and wonder what happened. Why is little Mary always crying and why is little Johnny so angry all the time.  If you fill a child's life with anger and disappointment then that's all they will know. You can't raise a child on nothing but negativity. I...

Our eyes, the windows to our world that we destroy a little each day.

Image
As I got older, my eyes got weaker. Something I blamed on age. It never crossed my mind that it was my lifestyle. Boy was I wrong. I went to the doctor, and had an eye opening experience. No pun intended. I work during the day as an ultrasound tech, which means I am in front of a computer, with the lights dimmed for eight hours. Then at night I’m in front of the computer working on my next story. Doesn't sound too bad, right? Well, I found out how wrong my lifestyle was for my eyes. I was told that my eyes had weakened over the last six months, mainly due to overuse, and strain. Now I understand strain, but how do you overuse your eyes? I can’t take them out, or elevate them with an ice bag. I know, bad medical humor but I couldn't help it. After some research, and a long lecture from my ophthalmologist, I found out that my eyes will continue to get worse unless I make some changes. I love my job, and I love to write, as do so many of you. So I’m go...

Writing is my passion, but reading is my love.  So putting more books into my New Years resolution wasn't that hard. I try to read at least one book a month. My first love has always been Romantic Suspense. But who doesn't like a little comedy especially when it is filled with two men to die for, Ranger and Morelli.  I truly like Morelli, but I would love to have a Ranger in my life. I always make goals, yet miss meeting them because life seems to get in the way, so this year I made my goals achievable.   I plan on reading one book a month, and putting a review on my blog and writing three books of my own.  Now if I could just keep life's little bumps under control I might just achieve these. Follow the link below for the other authors on this hop and find out what books they've loved, and what goals they have planned for 2014. http://www.rachelfirasek.com/p/blog-hop-signups.html To win an e-c...

The Fall and new beginnings

Image
I love the fall. The changing colors, cooler temps and amazing new beginnings. Last year , at this time, I was working on getting my first book ready for it's big release day in February. It was my first contract, and first book. I had no idea what I was doing and knew nothing about marketing. I've made mistakes and I know I will make many more but I've loved my journey.  My biggest mistake was that my writing slowed down. I spent many months trying everything, and anything I could find to market my book. I found myself spending every spare moment I had hitting websites, blogs and chasing sites promising a good platform. All of this is well and good but after beating my head against the virtual monitor I remembered a piece of advice on marketing I was given.  The best way to promote your book is write your next one. The elusive light bulb went off and I decided to do just that. I have two almost complete so I went to a pitch session with an editor this weekend. I...

Wickedly They Come. A guest post with Cathrina Constantine

Image
Help me welcome Cathrina today as we find out a little more about her and her new book,                                                       Wickedly They Come Tell us about your latest book, including its genre. Does it cross over to other genres? If so, what are they? Wickedly They Come is a dark, gritty, thought-provoking paranormal thriller which is geared toward older adolescence to adults. How do you come up with ideas? I stare at the computer and pray. What do you enjoy most about life? My husband and children, they are my life. Where do you start when writing? Research, plotting, outline, or...? I’m a pantser through and through. That’s one of my main problems. I need to learn how to plot. What...
