Yes I've made mistakes, But I've learned so much along the way.

Image
This month is my Third Anniversary as a Writer. And I love writing more today, then I did then.  I struggled in the beginning, and made many mistakes. I had a story I wanted to tell, but no idea how to do it. So I sat down and wrote it out. Once I was finished I felt accomplished.   I wrote a story!  I thought that's how you did it. Was I ever surprised to find out that was just the beginning, and the easy part. I needed direction. I thought you wrote a book, celebrated your accomplishment, then sent it to a publisher for a contract.  Well, a few things from my past came back to haunt me.  Like ninth grade English.  Yes, Comma's hated me,  They still do, and so did Grammar. I realized that I had 298 pages of horrible grammar mistakes which made my story difficult to read. After many review courses, and reading a lot of refresher books, my story fell into a publisher hands...

Abuse shouldn't be a part of someone's past. Be the voice that get's heard.

A Child should be seen, not heard. Who truly believes that? I don't. Children have a voice, we should encourage them to use it. Not hide behind their silence. Abuse comes in many forms . The most visible, physical . The next one we are familiar with is verbal but the one we cannot forget is emotional .  I am very familiar with the last two. I spent many years hiding behind a mask, never feeling like I was worthy, then being reminded of all my faults, and why I would never go anywhere in life by someone who wore a bigger mask then I did.  We look at our society and wonder what happened. Why is little Mary always crying and why is little Johnny so angry all the time.  If you fill a child's life with anger and disappointment then that's all they will know. You can't raise a child on nothing but negativity. I...

T,U,V,W,X,Y,Z The ABC's of a child's smile.

Image
When I think of the ABC's, I think about children. The many hours spent playing games and singing songs so they could learn these amazing letters. It was so much fun, but for some it's  source of pain.                                           April is national Child Abuse Month. That is why I combined the remaining letters so my post can stay up for a week. Child Abuse comes in many forms. Physical, verbal, emotional, neglect of basic needs including love. Can you imagine living without the security of knowing someone is there to love and protect you?  Feeling that you need to try and be perfect? Afraid to make mistakes? Abuse does not always leave physical scars. I know, that's why I became a child advocate, and a foster parent. I wanted to make sure children knew that learning their ABC's can be fun, without the fear of making mistakes.  If you ...

Tuesday Teaser with a sneak peak into some upcoming stories.

Image
I 'm working on a few stories right now and thought I'd take a moment and share a little excerpt from each one.  This first one is from   Last Chance to Run.  The second one in 'The Guardians of Hope Series.   Taking a deep breath to calm her racing heart, she inched along the wall to the edge.  Tracy  stopped and peered around the corner. The truck was there, just like Pat promised. All  Tracy  needed to do was make it across the compound and past the main house. A loud explosion rocked the ground beneath her, Pat’s diversion worked. All the guards headed towards the bunkers. With only a few minutes to spare, it was now or never.  Tracy  took off in a dead run. She was only seconds from freedom when the front door of the house flew open. Not looking back she pushed her aching legs harder. They would not catch her, not again. Another explosion vibrated the wet grass, pushing her faster. Muffled popping echoed in her ears as bull...

The Fall and new beginnings

Image
I love the fall. The changing colors, cooler temps and amazing new beginnings. Last year , at this time, I was working on getting my first book ready for it's big release day in February. It was my first contract, and first book. I had no idea what I was doing and knew nothing about marketing. I've made mistakes and I know I will make many more but I've loved my journey.  My biggest mistake was that my writing slowed down. I spent many months trying everything, and anything I could find to market my book. I found myself spending every spare moment I had hitting websites, blogs and chasing sites promising a good platform. All of this is well and good but after beating my head against the virtual monitor I remembered a piece of advice on marketing I was given.  The best way to promote your book is write your next one. The elusive light bulb went off and I decided to do just that. I have two almost complete so I went to a pitch session with an editor this weekend. I...
