What's coming next

I decided to venture outside my Suspense comfort zone and write a YA story.

If I Knew Then

Angel dreamed of a life of freedom. One filled with love that didn't come with a price.  She fought against the pain until he entered her life. Can he give her what she needs to let go of the past or will he leave her with a bigger challenge that will change her future?

 Blurb

Angel fought to keep her family safe from the evil that threatened to destroy her. She made sure she was always the one in front of her sisters when her Mother yielded her wrath. Keeping the danger that surrounded them a secret to lesser the blow she lived a lie that everyone believed, except for one. He was her only source of happiness until one day he was gone. With nothing left and no one to turn to  she must outrun her past, and overcome the secret that she fights to hide, before her Mother destroys everything she has left to hold on to.

Here is a little teaser from chapter three. It gives you a window into Angels hell she calls home.

“Angel, please wake up.”  Angel shot up in her bed to find her sisters huddled together on the edge of her bed. Their tear stained faces, and faint whimpering, made her cringe with fear.
“Get in my closet and don’t say a word. I’ll fix this and come back when its over, I promise.”  She got her sisters set and swallowed past the lump in her throat as a loud crash echoed up from downstairs. Shit, she’s up. Angel’s heart raced as she rushed down the stairs. The coffee table was on its side and her Mother was on the floor in a bed of broken glass. Her heart dropped as she bent over the motionless body.
“Mom, Mom, are you okay?” Tears burned her eyes as she fought to hold them back, then a faint moan sent a chill up her spine. “Don’t move. I’m going to get you up.” She inched over the shattered glass and lifted her mother. The slivers stabbed at her feet as she moved her mother to the couch. Her mother lifted her head and her eyes were beet red. Angel ran to the kitchen and grabbed a wet dish towel. When she got back she knelt before her and brushed the shards off her pants and peeled back the blanket she was wrapped in. It kept her from being cut and Angel blew out a deep sigh of relief.
“Stay here and I’ll clean this up.” She patted her mom’s knee and stood just as her mom raised her foot, shoving her onto the broken table. She threw her hands out to catch her fall and broken glass slit through her palms and knees as she landed.
“Look at what you did. How clumsy can you be Angel? Get this mess cleaned up and get that blood out of the carpet before morning. What is your dad going to think about you stumbling around in the dark, tripping over the furniture? I’ll have to tell him you were drinking again. You know how bad that will make him feel. His precious not as perfect as he tells everyone.”
Her slurred words and acid tone burned away any compassion left inside of Angel. She stayed in the middle of the glass as her mother stumbled past her. The vibration from her slamming door was a welcome sound and she let her tears fall. She just wanted to curl up somewhere and make this all end but she had to get up to her sisters, let them know it was okay. She opened her eyes and looked at the pool of blood beneath her hand. The throbbing raced up her arm and her head started to spin as the room went dark.

Rough draft, no editing done yet, but it shows her Mom will not win any Mother of the year awards.  Let me know what you think.

A hint into the second book of my Guardians of Hope Series,

 Last Chance to Run

What if you found out the daughter you buried was alive and being held captive by a man you thought you killed?
Ron Daily, head of FBI's Counterintelligence Department, races to save his daughter, Tracy, as she escapes from her captives for one Last Chance to Run.

Blurb:

Ron Daily gave everything he had to the FBI. The agency was his life, the only family he had left since his daughter died. Then his world came crashing in around him the day he found out the terrorist cell he had devoted his career to destroy took revenge upon him and staged her death. She was alive.
Jake loved Tracy and was giving up his career for her the day she died. Now he must face his past to fight the demons that have her, with or without her father’s approval.
Tracy Kingsley dreamed of a happy life to only wake in a nightmare. After years of being locked up and beaten she makes a deal that buys her time. A deal that would destroy her family if they ever found out.

In a race across international waters Jake and Ron must put their differences aside and go against the agency they both call family to save the one woman whom they both love. As obstacles mount, and secrets from the past  come back to haunt them they struggle to save Tracy from a terrorist cell that vows to get back what’s theirs at any cost.

Excerpt:
Tracy bolted upright in bed. Her heart pounded in her ears and she was drenched in sweat. Her eyes darted around as she frantically searched the room. With her chest on fire, she fought to catch her breath. Her eyes focused, and she groaned. Damn nightmare.
She dropped back onto her pillow and stared at the ceiling.  She’d been held captive for over two years now. During that time she’d memorized every crack and chip in the gray paint on the ceiling and walls that surrounded her.  She clenched her hands and rubbed her throbbing ring finger on her left hand. The knuckle was crooked, and the nail had a permanent crack in it. One of her many badly healed injuries from the failed attempts at escaping. She remembered how beautiful her hand had looked after Jake placed the ring on it.
Tracy blinked hard to fight back the tears. Two long years. Did he still remember her, still love her? It didn't matter, not anymore. He probably moved on, which is what she wanted him to do. What she needed him to do. In spite of her tight control a tear trailed down her cheek. She rubbed it away with the back of her hand. Their time was over. He must never find out what she had done, he wouldn't understand. No one would. She squeezed her eyes shut. So much wasted time and too many tears shed on a dream that would never happen. Her time was running out. She could feel it. If she was going to make her move, it had to be soon. Tracy’s eyes snapped open, no not soon, now. She sat up and threw her legs over the side of the bed.  The pain shot from her hip down her leg. She wasn't sure if it was from the initial accident or the beating she received after her last escape. It didn't matter anymore. Dex was due back any day, and if she wanted to run again it had to be soon. She knew she was in Ireland, just not sure where. He made his demands clear before he left, and she would rather die than do what he wanted. A shiver ran down her spine as she pushed herself up off the bed. She straightened and shook off the feeling of dread that engulfed her. Just as she stepped away the door flew open and slammed against the wall. Jumping back she gasped. No it can't be.
