Christmas is a special time in my house. I have five children with three in the military so I rejoice when I get a chance to have them home during the holidays.

When they were small we had a few traditions that were past down from my Grandparents. We would always decorate the tree the day after Thanksgiving and then get the advent wreath out and vote on who got to light which candle. Then the big vote came down. The one who was to put baby Jesus in the manger after midnight mass. That was one that they would always fight over.

I also passed down a few traditions my children loved. We would celebrate the feast of St. Nicholas. Our stockings were hung out on December 6th. when we woke up they were filled with small items like fruit, candies, coloring books, crayons and small games. Then we celebrated Christmas and the birth of Christ. On Christmas day we always had a birthday cake for Jesus. The last part of our holiday is that we would leave our tree up until January 6th. to celebrate The feast of the Three Kings, also known as the feast of the Epiphany. The night before we would place our shoes under the tree and they would get filled with small toys and gifts as a celebration for the journey the wise men made. My children always thought we had a month of celebrating, and not just one day. It is fun to see my sons passing the same traditions on to my grandchildren.

What traditions do you remember from your childhood that you passed on to your children?  Leave a comment, with your e-mail to get a chance to win a $10.00 Amazon gift card.

Continue on with the blog hop to get a chance at over 200 more prizes given away by some amazing authors.
